The Stretch: The Foundation of Engine Work

This course will dissect the stretching of hose to ensure positive fire ground outcomes. The course will present proven and effective methods for stretching hose to ensure positive fire ground outcomes. Students will leave with an understanding of effective hoseline stretches for both preconnects and longer lines, as well as hose estimation methods to ensure effective hose advances.
Jonah Smith
Jonah Smith is a battalion chief for the Charlotte (NC) Fire Department serving as the Chief of the 8th Battalion on C Shift and has been in the fire service for 20 years. He also is a volunteer firefighter with the Indian Land (SC) Fire Department. He holds a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina.
