Endurance training. Powerlifting. Circuit Training, Speed and Agility. Aerobics… But you’re a firefighter, working a shift, working a second job, chasing kids. You need to know which workout, specifically, is the best one to prepare you for the fireground and help you live long enough, after your 25 plus years riding the rig, to help raise your grandchildren.
This is the course for those who want this question answered…and it will. The participant will learn what type workouts they can do, on shift, in under an hour to optimize their performance on the fireground and increase their longevity into retirement.
While interspersed with actual stories of friends I’ve lost to cardiac events over my career, we will discuss: Firefighter challenges to their health and fitness, define what a “tactical athlete” is, compare traditional athletics with tactical athletics, define fitness for the fire service, understand “specificity of training” as it relates to the fire service and identify the ONE workout firefighters should do if limited to workouts on shift.
Bryan Reid
I began my career as in a small combination department in North Alabama with the City of Guntersville followed by a brief stint with a fire district just south of Birmingham. In 2028 I retired from Cobb County (GA) as a company officer after 27 years where I also served two years as a lieutenant training officer. I’ve been with the Town of Moncks Corner Fire Department since April of 2023. Over my years in the fire service, I’ve learned many lessons, many the hard way, about motivating people, fostering a positive work environment, advocating for your staff, leadership, and communication.
