Today’s fire service requires different leadership styles and motivational practices that vary from person to person. As a leader in your organization, you must be dynamic, teachable, adaptive, but, most importantly a student. It is imperative to learn about those you lead, truly understand their motivations, and how to effectively communicate with them. The result is the creation of a team that cares about each of its members as they believe in, and support one another, while carrying out the mission of the organization as well as serving those who call upon us in their time of need. Participating in this program will enable those in leadership positions to develop a passion for strengthening their team and creating an organization of which their employees can be proud.

Deputy Chief Dennis has over 20 years’ experience in the fire service and got his start as a volunteer firefighter with South Lynches Fire Department. Chief Dennis developed an interest in the fire service at a very young age as he had the opportunity to respond to calls with his father who was also a volunteer firefighter with South Lynches Fire Department. Chief Dennis began looking for employment opportunities and accepted a position with Midway Fire Rescue. Working through the ranks, he earned the position of Captain where he spent most of his time protecting the areas of Litchfield Beach and Pawleys Island. In February of 2014, Chief Dennis left Midway Fire Rescue to accept a position with Clarendon EMS where he worked as an EMT and then Paramedic. This opportunity allowed him to be closer to home and serve the community where he lived. In November of 2016, Chief Dennis accepted the position of Deputy Fire Marshal with Clarendon County Fire Department and in December of 2017, moved over to be the Captain of the Training Division. Chief Dennis has since been promoted to Deputy Chief of Fire Operations with Clarendon County Fire Rescue and still holds that position today.
