Burn injuries present unique challenges requiring specialized care from the moment of injury through transport and definitive treatment. This presentation will provide an overview of best practices for the initial management of burn injuries at the scene and during transport. We will delineate the referral criteria for burn centers, emphasizing the importance of timely transfer to specialized facilities. We will also discuss Firefighter burn injuries and the impact on their career.

Rosalee Unwin, MSN, APRN, FNP-C is the Outreach Education Coordinator for the South Carolina Burn Center at MUSC. With 14 years of combined burn experience as both a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, she brings extensive knowledge and expertise to her current role. Rosalee develops burn education sessions for pre-hospital, hospital, and educational institutions, as well as community members to ensure that everyone involved is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective burn management and prevention.
